This is not a comprehensive list of Macintosh astronomy software. Please tell me
It's not easy but doable. I do all of my astro-photography and astronomy on OS X. I drive all my camera on Mac using Astro-IIDC for the Firewire camera for planetary imaging and TheSkyX Pro with the camera add-on for my SBIG STF-8300M (and it also supports all the filter wheel from SBIG). TheSkyX pro has a good list of supported camera and this list keeps getting longer and longer.
- (1.13.1) Updated to current SBIG library for support of STi cameras

- Star "mass" now added to log file
- (1.13.7) (Bret) Patch to cleanly call Scope::Connect() at end of connection routine for specific mounts (ASCOM and some Mac specific)
I tried Macam out on a 400Mhz iMac over the weekend, after downloading it.
Again, no. Astro IIDC only works with IIDC Cameras, which follow the open IIDC camera protocol. Secondly, it is VERY unlikely you will ever see Giga-E on the Mac. To get the full frame rate and I/O control of Giga-E, it usually require a special Giga Ethernet card. The stock GigaBit controller that Apple ships is not up to the task. Since only the highest end Macs have an expansion slots (PCI-E Express or PC 34 ExpressCard) which Apple sells the fewest models of per year, the economics of writing Ethernet drivers for them and then developing Giga-E drivers makes Giga-E prohibitively expensive. And given Appleβs direction in their products designs (no FireWire 3200, no USB 3, no Ethernet and no Expansion Slots), itβs unlikely that any expansion options will be offered in the future models. If you want to use GigaE Cameras, youβll have to go Windows with a cheap Non Mac PC that has expansions slots.
